Senegalese presidential elections conducted peacefully

News from Dakar-Africas' most west capital city suprised, the whole wide world
when it was announced that President Aboudalaye Sade peacefully stepped down from power, allowing Macky Sally to take over as the new president of Senegal. This was a shock in  a good way as it showed how the west African nation's democracy has improved and matured over the over  years. This warmly -accepted transition in power proved that Africans can conduct peaceful and successful elections. That view mighty be strongly disputed by some political pundits due to the fact that Mali is currently suffering from a coup-mlitary rules the streets of Bamako which is Mali's capital city.

Sade's mature reaction and the way he handled the matter was applauded by many international leaders including the secretary general of the UN Ban ki-moon and the French president Nicholas Szakorzy.Media reports from Dakar claim that Saye congratulated the newly crowned state president for his achievements over the telephone and the entire Senegalese population warmly embraced Macky Sally who was once Abdoulayes protege.Congratulations to Senegal hopefully more African countries will learn from them  that power is not won through the barrels of a gun and mutual peaceful means by arch-rivals can be met for the benefit of the country and its beloved civilians.

the global events mystery

Hello folks...my topic today is about the various sporting events that South Africa has hosted since the dawn of democracy and the impacts they had in our beloved country whether political, economical or socially. We hosted the rugby world cup in 1995,a year after we hosted africa's elite footballing competition the AFCON.In 2003 it was the cricket world cup and in 2010 we hosted what is arguably the world's biggest sport event the FIFA soccer world cup.Next year which is 2013 we will be in the ''class' of very few African teams to be fortunate enough to host the intercontinental showpiece more than once.Despite having hosted so many global events before it is argued that the ordinary citizens of South Africa have failed to benefit from the greener pastures  generated by these events. The defence point of government in this issue is that the transportation system has improved through the Gautrain and Rea vaya campaigns.Still an Plato-minded citizen will argue that the campaigns are only accessible in various places whre the most of the population is well-off.Some of the stadiums in certain provinces have turned from world class logistics to white elephants in an instant. An example of these kind of stadiums is the Mbombela Stadium and Nelson Mandela Stadium in Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape respectively.THE stadiums rarely host major national sport matches or events because tthere are no top-class teams of any sport code that play in national elite sport competitions, yet a tax payer still suffers from the monthly 14% deduction for the stadia's maintenance purposes. The hosting of the 2010 world cup raises a thorny question:did South Africa do a wise move to host the world cup at this point in time where more than 60% of the country is in poverty instead of using the money spent on all the logistics to help the poor on basuc needs and improve the education system.
